America now has two co-presidents. One is the official figurehead who is propped up at a podium where he accidentally mumbles racial slurs or in a chair where he signs anti-American executive orders. The other is a conniving shrew with socialist tendencies. With the mental decline of Joe Biden, whose capacity wasn’t all that impressive to begin with, we knew this eventuality was coming; however, who knew that a month into the beginning of the administration, we would already be here? At least that is the reality that I and many others like me seem to be witnessing.

This month, the Vice President, in name only, did something that is, for all intents and purposes, unprecedented. She held official phone correspondence with two world leaders, namely French President Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau. A readout of the conversation with Macron showed that Kamala “expressed her commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between the United States and France and to revitalizing the transatlantic alliance.” Yes, you read that correctly. She expressed HER commitment, not the commitment of the Biden administration. Traditionally, any official phone conversations on foreign policy would be conducted by the President. If, and that’s a big IF, the Vice President were to take these phone calls, she would and should be serving at the pleasure and in the stead of the President. She would making proclamations on behalf of him or his administration, not of her own accord.

As far as I know, a step like this has never been taken by a Vice President. Vice Presidents have made trips to meet foreign leaders mainly for show, but official policy is typically not decided without the President. In looking for an official list or discussion of the duties of the Vice President, one can find on the US Senate website that it was not until the late 20th century that the Vice President has taken a slightly more executive role. Interestingly enough, there is what seems to be an afterthought paragraph entitled “The Vice Presidency Today” that may have only recently been added to the website. The first sentence reads, “In the modern era, vice presidents have shaped the office to meet their interests and the needs of the president.” The fact that this two sentence, very specific paragraph looks tacked onto the bottom of a long historical account of the office of the Vice President is suspicious to say the least.

Again, as I said before, as conservatives we knew this day was coming. But my question for the moderate and centrist left is why they are letting it slide. A woman whose policies were so progressive and radical that she could not secure a single delegate and only garnered the support of maybe 10-12% of the entire Democratic party during the primary is now assuming roles of the President of the United States. At least a little feigned concern might be nice to see.
